Biography of Ricardo
Technical and Development Director Ricardo Scheidecker orchestrates the well-oiled machine that is Deceuninck – Quick-Step. Scheidecker’s story is an interesting one, having been born Mozambique, where his parents met, before moving to back to their Native Portugal shortly after Ricardo was born.
His intrigue for cycling began as a 12-year-old while watching the Tour of Portugal on TV and this interest led to a love of the bike as a machine initially. The family couldn’t afford to buy a complete bike at first, so his father paid for a frame in installments and they found pieces to build a bike. Once his steed was ready Ricardo’s best friend asked him if he wanted to race and his love evolved into that of racing.
When speaking of working with Deceuninck – Quick-Step, Ricardo says that he has never experienced anything like 2018 and describes the record break year as ‘an exceptional one’ that ‘marked him’. Despite having the vast experience of working with some of the biggest cycling teams in the world, he says, ‘This is a very special group and the best that I have worked with. All of the staff are work really hard to try to continue to be as successful as possible.’
As well as riding his bike and spending time with his children, during spare time he enjoys building model planes and is a passionate WWI and WWII historian. This has led to him visiting a number of historic sites related to the two great wars and has helped him build a huge respect for the people involved.
